For those like Manniello who want to stay on top of their information, the event provided several tables with information about the disease from various nonprofit groups, support groups, as well as animal rescue and obedience information. After the walk ended, participants and their furry friends had a chance to relax and recoup before the other animal activities began

“The best part about this is that bringing people and their pets together to raise money is much more attractive and helps us gain that many more people to walk,” said Cynthia Dailey, a APDA volunteer working her sixth year registering participants at the event. “I see the same people and the same dogs coming back each year. They love the fact that they can enjoy doing something with their pet and help raise money at the same time. It makes them feel more connected, rather than just donating money.”

Dailey stressed that you don’t necessarily need a dog to participate in events like these; it’s just what makes them more fun. She estimated that by the end of the day, if the walk went as successful as past years, they would have registered almost four hundred people. Lucky for them, the gorgeous fall weather left no reason why the event wouldn’t attract as many people as years past.

“Helping this cause is so important to myself and my family, it’s so rewarding at the end of the day. And it was really a great way to end our weekend,” said Mason. She said her two English bulldogs, Butter and George, were having a great time walking with the other dogs, and most definitely needing the exercise.

“They love human food and I’ll admit I spoil them and fatten them up, so it’s also a plus that I get to give them some exercise!” said Mason.

Whatever the reason was for those in attendance, the event went on without any interruptions, and provided a fun environment to raise money and awareness for a very destructive, yet common disease.
